Our Family

Our Family

Poor Neglected Blog...

It has been a crazy couple of weeks around the House of Payne.  Our lease on our house in VA was up on 1 June.  Our landlords were trying to sell, so they could not grace us the first two weeks of June to get the boys through school.  Understandable, but oh so hard on our family.  We are thankful for the hospitality of the family Vance who allowed us to hole up in their basement for 2 weeks!

So... the last 2 weeks of school had us living in a basement... better than a van down by the river, but still... Since we were not following our moving truck down to Florida, our household goods were placed in storage.  Awesome.  Once they arrived in storage we were allowed to request a delivery date. We chose 21 June.  We got 3 July.  When my man and our first born will be off in CO somewhere camping and hiking.  Ok... rolling with it, like any good military wife would roll:)

Following the news of our delayed delivery date, Scott had a serious  "We need to talk" discussion with me.  Turns out he was on an extremely short (read He's the guy) list of Marine O5's needed to deploy for a year unaccompanied to UAE.  We were relieved it was in a relatively safe place.  We were not sad about the deployment.  He has not been in a number of years and in that time, so many other families have been multiple times.  It is certainly our "turn".  We were only sad about the timing.  The deployment left on 14 July and our shipment was coming on the 3rd.  More upsetting was the fact that Scott had been training for a year with a group of boys in our Scout Troop for a trip to Philmont Ranch.  Going on this deployment meant missing this once in a lifetime trip with his oldest son.  The day after that news came, we learned of sever flooding in Pensacola, literally 2 blocks from the storage facility that housed our belongings.  Nice.

We had to wait until Monday to call the storage company but were so relieved when we learned that "supposedly" our stuff was high and dry.  I will let you know if that was true come 3 July!  (Melissa B- Get your lie counter ready!)  That was one major weight off our shoulders.  After several anxious days of waiting on the deployment verdict, we learned that the request had been sent to another command and Scott was not going!  Whew!  We are fully prepared to go sometime in the near future, but the Philmont trip is safe and my men leave next Sunday for that.

Through it all we were reminded of the greatness of God's grace and peace knowing full well that He held all the details in His hands.  We were truly at a point where all we could do was let go.

We now sit here in and empty house in Pace, FL watching the beginnings of Tropical Storm Debby stir up.  We are reminded of how he is our great Protector in the midst of any storm.

More later on our last few days in VA!

I can't imagine how you survived all of this. Hope you make it until your furnishings arrive!
