Military Kids are a special bunch. I am reminded of that fact every time we pick up and move to a new duty station. They are a brave and confident bunch. No moss grows on them. They know they have a short time to jump in and develop relationships. All moves are hard on kids, but I do believe one of the most difficult times to move as a kid is during high school. Couple that with moving from a high school that sees a lot of students move in and out of the area to a high school where the kids have been in the same classes since their parents had them in bed babies at the local church. It is hard.
Andrew dove into his new school head first. We were BEYOND blessed to get in touch with his new Cross Country coach before we ever moved. This amazing man emailed Andrew personally and answered all his questions. He had Andrew start training with the team right after we first arrived in June. This helped Andrew so much. Not only was he getting good training in, he was forming friendships and the new cafeteria did not look quite so intimidating on the first day.
We have been enjoying our time with the cross country team. Andrew is working hard and improving with every race. The new team is much smaller than his old team. His coach has time to make things personal. The group of kids he runs with are first rate. It has been great. Enjoy some pictures of his first two invitationals!!!
