Here at the House of Payne, every time we have a meal together each member of the family share's the day's highs and lows. It is one of our favorite things about dinner time. It also keeps us connected to one another and aware of what is happening in each other's lives. Last year was a tough year of lows for Sam. EVERY night Sam's low involved his arch nemesis Miles. Every day Miles would do SOMETHING to upset Sam's world. There have also been lows that have included drama on the four square court or during a class kick ball game. Highs have included trips to amusement parks, a great grade on a test, visits from family and friends, an awesome play on the baseball field. I could go on forever.
We have started including Katie's highs and lows at the dinner table as well. The poor girl. She does not have a chance in this house hold full of boys! Apparently, some of Katie's lows involve getting caught kung fu fighting and drop kicking a boy who tried to cut her in line at the mushroom slide (See Kate's referral picture), getting stuck in the tunnel of the mushroom slide, having to wait in an extraordinarily long line for said mushroom slide, having a bad hair day on her "passport/visa" photo taking day and the already oppressive heat in Guangxi province. Highs have included an extra serving of noodles at lunch, cuddling with caregivers as she watches the cars and trucks go by, being first in line for the mushroom slide, asking "Daddy, come and have a meal" (which she can apparently say in Chinese) and sensing that she has a forever family and a Daddy who will always come and have a meal.
I would say we are in need of an update so we can have new information at Highs and Lows time! Really I just want her home so she can give her own highs and lows! How sweet it will be to hear her little voice...

ok - -- that one got me! So sweet! Little Katie girl is already so loved - - I cannot wait for you to have her in your home forever and have your entire family loving on her!!!!
This blog made me smile.
HA! Sweet Kathryn will give you a dose of highs & lows I am sure!! In the meantime, stay out of that baby's way near the mushroom slide!
We do high/low too! Its fun to hear things like when your (Mom's) low was rushing the kids out the door for school, feeling exasperated - happened to be was their high (that Mom made sure they were prepared!) Sometimes, it can be humbling - but others? Reminds us why we are parents!
So clever and cute that your boys are already incorporating their sister!!
I have a feeling Katie's big brothers will never let her date!!
Kelly, I love this! & lol, I was already thinking the same thing - you need an update and some new pictures so they can incorporate more than the mushroom slide into her highs and lows! So cute. You've got a great family, Kelly, and it's wonderful to see just how loved Katie is going to be!
